Crossing Cultures

Crossing Cultures is a short-form social media docuseries by WhatsApp that explores groups of people living in a country they’re not originally from. Each episode explores different locations, and the main goal was to show how WhatsApp allows foreigners to create a home away from home. The show is hosted by travel writer & entrepreneur, Jessica Nabongo, and was developed for WhatsApp by the team at monks (FKA Media.Monks).

Challenge
We needed a visual language that preserved WhatsApp’s recognizable brand while spotlighting individual identities and the different places each story was rooted in. The system also had to flex across diverse content formats without losing clarity or accessibility.


As part of the creative team...
As part of the creative team, developed the core visual system for the campaign by using WhatsApp’s brand colors and typography as a foundation while introducing elements that highlighted each participant’s cultural background and story. The work included concepting and designing logo explorations, motion-friendly graphic elements, social layouts, and scalable templates th at supported a cohesive experience across all campaign touchpoints.
